Phil joined University of Queensland as Lecturer in Agribusiness in 2014 where he was responsible for the discipline of Agribusiness, Chair of Teaching & Learning for the School of Agriculture and Food Sciences and for coordinating courses at Postgraduate (Masters) or Undergraduate (Bachelors Degree) level. Courses included Agribusiness Marketing, Applied Market Research, Export Marketing & Practices and Food & Fibre Case Studies in which small groups of students completed real-world ‘consultancy assignments’ for agribusiness clients.
He also supervised PhD candidates who investigated a range of issues related to Australian agribusiness. Whilst at UQ, Phil led a major Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research project in Philippines which required 22 visits over 4 years to train and coach teams of researchers as they conducted and analysed markets so that farming communities could make evidence-based decisions about attractiveness of distribution channels.
Phil has also completed approximately 150 business diagnostics and assisted many manufacturing firms to improve their marketing efficiency and effectiveness. This was achieved by travelling with them to visit customers and non-customers, engaging them in conversations. These conversations revealed client/company strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that may not have been revealed without the structured approach to the discussions that were facilitated by Phil.
